Getty Images Google CEO Sundar Pichai.Google boosted revenue by more than $5 billion in the third quarter, and while the core advertising business contributed the bulk of that new money, “other” businesses grew much faster. Overall, Alphabet Inc.’s GOOGL, +0.00% GOOG, -0.08% third-quarter sales grew to $27.8 billion from $22.25 billion in the year-ago period, pulling in profit of $6.73 billion. As in the past, Google’s biggest cash windfall was its ad sales, which grew 20% to $19.7 billion, topping analyst expectations by $500 million, according to FactSet. Google serves ads on search results and other web properties such as Gmail, as well as YouTube. While Alphabet does not break out YouTube revenue, the video site launched a TV offering earlier this year, and executives praised the performance of ads on that service for attracting viewers’ eyeballs.via
